Laser Frequently Asked Questions

After your laser hair removal treatment, it’s normal for your skin to feel slightly sensitive. Some common sensations include:

  • Redness: Your skin may appear red for a few hours post-treatment, similar to mild sunburn.
  • Swelling: Mild swelling can occur around the treated areas.
  • Itchiness: You may experience slight itchiness as your skin heals.
  • Darkening of freckles: Some freckles or sun spots may temporarily darken.

To reduce these effects, it’s essential to keep the area cool, avoid touching or rubbing, and apply an SPF if exposed to sunlight.

Yes, you must shave the area to be treated at least 24 hours before your appointment. Shaving helps the laser target the hair follicle more effectively. Avoid waxing, tweezing, or using depilatory creams as these can interfere with the treatment.

Most clients require 6-8 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results. This allows us to target hair in various growth stages. The exact number of sessions can vary based on your hair type, skin type, and the area being treated.

It works by targeting the pigment in hair follicles with concentrated light. The laser energy is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in the hair, which heats and damages the follicle, preventing future hair growth. The treatment is non-invasive, quick, and effective on most hair types.

  • Avoid bleaching or using depilatory creams for 4-6 weeks before and during your treatment.
  • Stop waxing, plucking, or threading at least 1 month before your appointment.
  • Shave the area to be treated 24 hours before your session.
  • Exfoliate with AHA/BHA products 1 week before and after treatment; do not exfoliate 2 days before or after.
  • Make sure there’s no fake tan or residue on the treatment area.
  • Apply broad-spectrum SPF to treated areas when exposed to sunlight.
  • Do not use lotions, oils, or moisturizers on the treatment area on the day of your appointment.
  • Inform your specialist of any changes in medication or health.
  • Avoid antihistamines or anti-inflammatory medication 24 hours before treatment.
  • Let us know if you have tattoos or semi-permanent makeup in the treatment area.

  • Do not scratch, rub, or pick at the treated area.
  • Wear loose clothing to avoid friction or irritation and avoid tight garments such as tights or jeans.
  • Use our recommended post-laser cream as often as needed to soothe the skin.
  • Only mineral-based makeup can be applied to the treated area within the first 24 hours.
  • Avoid sun exposure for at least 1 week post-treatment and use a broad-spectrum SPF on treated areas at all times.
  • Do not apply deodorant for 24 hours post-treatment.
  • For the first 24 hours, avoid very hot water and showers.
  • Stay away from steam rooms or saunas for 48 hours after treatment.
  • Don’t swim in heavily chlorinated water for 48 hours.
  • Do not undergo other treatments such as chemical peels, injectables, or dermal pen treatments in the treated area for 4 weeks.

Some clients may require touch-up treatments over time to maintain smooth, hair-free skin.

We advise against laser hair removal during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to hormonal changes that may affect treatment results.

Yes, you can still have laser hair removal if you have tattoos, but we avoid treating the tattooed area. The laser should not be used directly over the tattoo to prevent excessive heat absorption that could cause discomfort or damage. We ensure the area is covered and treated with caution, keeping the treatment 3 fingers away from any tattoo.

Most clients report feeling only a mild sensation, like the snap of a rubber band against the skin. The sensation varies by individual and area being treated.

No, please remove any fake tan before your appointment. Residue can interfere with the laser’s effectiveness and may cause skin irritation.

At-home devices are typically less powerful than professional lasers, which means they may not be as effective for permanent hair reduction. Professional treatments use medical-grade equipment that is customised to your skin and hair type for faster, more effective results. At-home devices also may not have the same safety features and protocols as professional services.

Laser is less effective on blonde or light-coloured hair because it lacks the pigment that the laser targets. While results may be more limited, our advanced technology may still provide improvement, but you may need additional treatments. A free consultation with our experts will help determine whether laser is the best option for you.

Yes, modern laser technology can safely treat most skin types. However, certain lasers are more suitable for different skin tones. For example, darker skin tones may require specific settings to prevent damage to the skin. During your free consultation, we will assess your skin type and choose the appropriate laser for the best results.
